[ARCHIVED] Saturday is Drug Take Back Day

The Lexington Police Department, along with the Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (LRADAC) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will be working together on Saturday, April 22, 2022, at CVS and Walgreens in the Town of Lexington for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

From 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the Lexington Police Department will have marked tents set up in the parking lots at the following locations:

CVS - 5608 Sunset Boulevard, Lexington
Walgreens - 5220 Sunset Boulevard, Lexington

Those interested in dropping off discarded prescription drugs can bring them there to officers who will be at this event and they will be turned over to the DEA for proper disposal.  Please note that syringes will not be accepted for disposal at this event.

DEA DRUG TAKE BACK
“Addiction to prescription medications continues to be on a dangerous rise and our officers are investigating overdose incidents at alarming numbers”, Chief Terrence Green said. “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is the perfect opportunity to take a few minutes to clean your medicine cabinet to ensure that these dangerous drugs are disposed of safely and are kept out of the hands of those who would abuse them.”

As a reminder, the Lexington Police Department, which is located at 111 Maiden Lane, has a permanent CVS Drug Collection Unit in the lobby, and prescription medications can be disposed of there during business hours.

More information can be found on the Drug Enforcement Administration website.
