MAYOR'S MESSAGE
April 2022
It’s been just over one year since the opening of the Icehouse Amphitheater Pavilion and there is much success to celebrate.
Many of you may recall the site as being home to an ice plant in the late 1920’s before it became a propane distributorship in 1970. The Town purchased the property in 2012 with a vision for it to help revitalize downtown and provide quality of life for the community.
Three years later, the Town broke ground on the Icehouse Amphitheater and the venue opened in October of 2016. The latest addition to the property began in 2020 when construction started on the Pavilion, which opened in early 2021.
In just one year of the Pavilion being open, there have been nearly 100 events and concerts held at the Amphitheater with approximately 291,500 attendees. In that same time span, the Icehouse Amphitheater also ranked as the fourth most popular leisure destination within a 50-mile radius. We believe that with the addition of the Pavilion on this site, the Icehouse Amphitheater has become the ultimate outdoor venue and we are very proud of the success we are experiencing.
If you haven’t been to the Amphitheater yet, we hope you’ll join us for an event this year! The Spring Lexington Live Concert Series, presented by Nephron Pharmaceuticals, starts on Thursday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m. The free concerts will be held each Thursday through the end of May and feature a fun time for the entire family. Then, on Saturday, May 14 The Market at Icehouse returns for the season. Come out Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through the end of September to shop local vendors, fresh produce and more (with the exception of July 2).
