Pre-Emption

In collaboration with the Lexington County Department of Public Safety, the Town of Lexington is gradually implementing Emergency Vehicle Pre-emption (EVP). This technology allows fire trucks and other emergency vehicles to get through traffic signals quickly. These vehicles are equipped with technology that talks directly to the traffic signal to alert the signal that they are approaching. The signal will either stay green longer or shorten the red light if it is red. The goal is to improve travel times for emergency vehicles. Improving the on-time performance in these situations aids in response times.
