Planning & Building

The Planning and Building Department provides comprehensive planning and development functions for the Town’s current and future residential, commercial and industrial interests to improve the quality of life for the people in the Town of Lexington. 

The Planning and Building Department is responsible for the following:
  • Approving Permits.
  • Provides information regarding zoning of properties.
  • Assist with land development regulations.
  • Assist with address assignments.
  • Administers and enforces the Town's land use ordinances. 
  • Coordinates with annexation of properties into the municipality. 
  • Guides residential and commercial development projects through the approval process.
  • Review proposed business for compliance with the Town's land use ordinances during the business license approval process. 
The Planning and Building Department also walks applicants through the following approval process:
  • Appeals of administrator decisions
  • Ordinance amendments
  • Planned developments
  • Rezoning
  • Street reclassifications
The department also serves as a liaison to four public review boards.
