The Town of Lexington has been fortunate to be a thriving community, especially during the economic downslide of the recession. We have grown by 83% percent since 2000 and the Urban Land Institute projects the Midlands region will grow another 500,000 residents over the next 40 years.

The Town of Lexington is proud and honored to be the host of the 2014 Dixie Youth World Series. Lexington Dixie Baseball program organizers, Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission and the entire community has worked tirelessly to ensure we provide participants the best experience possible at this year's event.

The Town of Lexington, along with Lexington County, has seen unprecedented growth since the turn of the century. As our population grows, so does the demand for infrastructure and maintaining the highest quality of life possible. To ensure we can provide these services, Lexington County Council has placed the Penny for Progress referendum on the November ballot for citizen vote.

The Town of Lexington is proud to announce it will open the Fourth Annual Farmers Market this month at its new location Lexington Square Park, 205 E. Main St. It will operate each Saturday from June 7 - September 27 (except July 5th) from 9am-12noon.

The Town of Lexington is transforming before our very eyes. Spring is bringing us the completion of several projects including Phase I of the Unified Traffic Plan, I-20/Sunset Blvd. Interchange Beautification Project and Fourteen Mile Creek Trail.

The Town of Lexington has always tried to be good stewards of nature. We understand the importance of helping the environment through such efforts as recycling and stormwater. That is why the Town of Lexington will dedicate the month of April to celebrating "Green is Clean" in honor of Earth Day.

The Town of Lexington is embarking on an exciting time of change. In the past few years the aesthetic of the town has changed with the implementation of our Vision Plan. The beauty of Lexington is shining through projects such as Lexington Square and the Commercial Façade Improvement Grant Program along with the construction of the I-20/Sunset Blvd.

I, like many of you, grew up in Lexington and my how times have changed. Each day, as I serve as your Mayor, I am reminded of the wonderful town I get to call home and now have the opportunity to lead. The Town of Lexington has been able to grow through smart infrastructure such as roads and utilities.

Please allow me to begin by saying that I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season. It is hard to believe we are in 2014 and I must say the Town of Lexington was fortunate to have a very productive 2013. Credit is due to our wonderful town staff, who by the way, makes my and Council's job seamless. As I stated before, we have the best staff in government and they take pride in ensuring that you have the best quality of life possible.
