The Lexington Police Department takes sober driving seriously and along with proactive D.U.I. enforcement from within the Patrol Division and Traffic Division, several additional programs have been created in partnership with Town of Lexington restaurants and bars and local tow services to further create safe alternatives to getting home at the end of the night with a sober driver at the wheel.
The "Be A Designated Driver, A Friend For Life" program was started in 2014 to promote the use of a designated driver who is ready to take the wheel and give friends and family a sober ride home.
"Operation Safe Tow" was started in 2016 with the participation of ten local tow services who came together with the Lexington Police Department to create a program which works with Town of Lexington bars and restaurants to offer patrons a ride for themselves along with their vehicle for the flat fee of $100.
These programs both continue to highlight the importance of partnerships with Town of Lexington bars, restaurants, and tow services with a focus on safe and sober drivers getting everyone home safe anytime someone has been drinking.
