The Town of Lexington has grown prosperously while maintaining our small town charm and history, which is evident when the town purchased, restored and reopened the historic Palmetto Collegiate Institute. The current wedding venue, served as a school from 1881 to 1911. In 1906, tuition for the school ranged from $1.10 per month for first grade to $2.90 per month for ninth grade. To assist with living space, students were able to board with neighboring families. After the institute closed, the building was then was used as a private residence by the Roof family, whose roots were here in Lexington. We are proud of the Palmetto Collegiate Institute's history as it is another cornerstone to the uniqueness of historic Downtown Lexington.
