Child Passenger Safety Seat Program
The Town of Lexington is a community with many young families and the Lexington Police Department identified the need to have trained Child Passenger Seat Technicians available to ensure that children always ride safely in vehicles. CPS Technicians find that over 90% of child seats are installed incorrectly, have been recalled, or aren't the right seat for the weight of the child riding in the car seat.
Over the course of a year, CPS Technicians check over 200 along with facilitating or participating in over fifty events. These events include quarterly Drive-Thru Child Safety Seat Checks, Summer Safety Days, Lexington Mommy Babies & Bumps, Neighborhood Safety Day, and a weeklong Child Passenger Safety Week with events schedule each day for a week in August.
The Lexington Police Department is a certified NTHSA Fitting Station and appointments can be made to meet one on one with a CPS Technician by calling PFC. Steffonie Cockerill at 803-359-620 or by email at .
