In an effort to maintain open lines of communication with the citizen’s and business owners of Lexington, the Lexington Police Department is now offering the opportunity to sign up for its Email Alert System (EAS). The EAS is intended to provide the public with up to date information on events, happenings, and crime alerts as warranted. Sample email alert messages can be found below. If you wish to sign up for the email alert system, click on this link to go to the webpage where you can sign up. If you wish to have multiple email accounts on the EAS alert system, please complete the on-line form one time for each email address you want added. You will receive an email message response indicating that your request has been received and processed with further instructions within the email message. After that, you will receive email alerts as soon as they are sent out. Though there is no set frequency of use, it is expected that there will be, on average, two messages a month sent using the EAS.

Sample message #1

At 10:45 a.m. on September 10, 2004, an armed robbery took place at the Regions Bank, 216 East Main Street, Lexington, South Carolina. One suspect, dressed in a green sweatshirt, jeans, and stocking mask entered the facility and jumped the counter into the tellers’ window area. The suspect tried to open the first cash drawer, was unsuccessful, and then moved on to a second drawer, where an undisclosed amount of cash was taken. The suspect then ran out of the facility and got into a red panel van. At that time, Mr. Danny Harmon, 141 Rawl Street, Lexington, observed the suspect enter and exit the bank and enter the escape vehicle. He followed the van to Corley and Harmon Streets where the subject abruptly stopped the van, causing Mr. Harmon to rear end the suspect’s vehicle. He continued to follow the suspect’s vehicle into the Old Mill Apartment Complex located on US Highway One. The subject then exited the vehicle and ran into the woods adjacent to the apartment complex. The Lexington Police Department was able to establish an effective perimeter and, with the assistance of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department was able to apprehend Daniel A. Hrynczyn of Cleveland, Ohio on Parker Street in Lexington. Charges will be filed against the suspect later today by the FBI and Lexington Police Department.

Any questions or requests for additional information should be directed to Terrence Green, Chief of Police, Town of Lexington, at (803) 359-6260.
