Mayor's Message by Steve MacDougall (1/2017)
Happy New Year! It seems like 2016 was gone in a flash, but I am proud to say it was another banner year for the Town of Lexington..
First and foremost, we officially opened our Icehouse Amphitheater to an overwhelming response from the community. We hosted the Lexington Beerfest, which brought out 1,200 people, along with the Town's first FREE concert, Downtown Jams. The Root Doctors performed to a crowd of 1,500 people and 300 people came out to our Snowball Festival's Movies in the Park.
Also, the Town was fortunate to receive a USDA grant to help with the flood recovery process. The funds were used to clean up the areas around Old Mill Pond Dam and Gibson Pond Dam. This past fall, cleanup activity focused on the removal of debris and downed trees along with the rock and sediment. After the cleanup, the Twelve Mile Creek was diverted back to its original stream bed.
Finally, the Town was bestowed several awards in 2016. The Town was recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 18th straight year and Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the seventh straight year. The Police Department was named "Agency of the Year" by SC Department of Public Safety for traffic safety, DUI enforcement, programming and strategic planning.
Join me Monday, February 6, 2017 at 6:30pm for our Council Meeting, as I deliver my State of the Town Address acknowledging all of our major accomplishments in 2016 and announcing our goals for this year. You may also watch the Address live on our TWC station.
Town Council and I are excited for a new year as we continue to transform our Vision Plan into reality. My best wishes to everyone - have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017!
