December 2017

The Town of Lexington has wonderful citizens and our tight knit community has always provided a generous heart when it comes to helping others. I encourage everyone to continue these small actions that help make a huge difference in others’ lives, especially during the holiday season.

The Lexington Police Department will once again partner with the United States Marine Corps for the “Toys for Tots” Campaign. The department serves as a collection site for new, unwrapped toys. Help us once again “Fill the MRAP” and bring smiles to area children and make their Christmas morning special. The Police Department will be on site throughout the community accepting donations. Detailed information is listed on Page 2 of Town Topics.

In addition to the “Toys for Tots” Campaign, the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission is sponsoring Project Warmth. This year we would like to provide our seniors in

Lexington County with warm fuzzy fleece blankets. Local businesses and citizens can contribute through both monetary donations as well as new blanket donations. 100% of monetary donations received will go to the purchase of new blankets! For more information, visit www.lcrac.com or contact (803) 359-9961 x.227.

The Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission is also hosting Stuff the Trunk to Share the Love. The event will take place Saturday, December 9th from 9am-3pm at the Christmas Sampler and Christmas Peddler Craft Shows to be held at the Lexington and Tri-City Leisure Centers. Donations of canned and non-perishable food items will help to replenish emergency food pantries that support and provide a safety net for our Meals on Wheels clients. For more information, visit www.lcrac.com or contact (803) 356-5111.

Finally, Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS) is accepting donations to fill holiday baskets to provide Christmas Dinner to area families. You may prepare a full basket or donate items to help complete baskets. Wish list items include: Ham/Turkey (frozen or canned), canned sweet potatoes, canned collards, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, cornbread mix, green beans and dessert mix (complete box kit). Donations will be accepted from 9am-5:30pm at 216 Harmon St.

Thank you for your contributions this holiday season to help those in need. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
