April 2016

Spring is in the air and just in time, as April is filled with many community events focused on taking care of Mother Nature.

This month, the Town of Lexington will join Lexington County and several partners as we celebrate Earth Day in an effort to help protect the environment.

Lexington County residents can participate in Regional Recycling Day on Saturday, April 9 from 9am - 2pm at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, 5503 Sunset Blvd. The event includes recycling of electronics, household hazardous waste, pesticides, shoes and paper shredding.

Also, Lexington County will host Backyard Garden Day on Saturday, April 23 from 9am - 12pm at Red Bank Crossing, 1070 South Lake Dr. The event includes a Compost and Compost Bin Sale. Compost can be purchased at the event ($30 per ton). You may also pre-order The Earth Machine Compost Bin for $35, which can be picked up at the event. A very limited quantity of compost bins will be available for purchase at the event.

For more information on these Earth Day events, or to pre-order a compost bin, please contact Rick VanDerGeest (email), Lexington County Recycling Coordinator, at (803) 785-3340.

I hope to see you out and about this month and taking an opportunity to invest in preserving our environment by celebrating Earth Day!
