April 2014

The Town of Lexington has always tried to be good stewards of nature. We understand the importance of helping the environment through such efforts as recycling and stormwater. That is why the Town of Lexington will dedicate the month of April to celebrating "Green is Clean" in honor of Earth Day. First, we invite you to roll up your sleeves and help collect debris around town during the Eighth Annual Great Lexington Clean Up, hosted by the Advisory Committee. The event takes place on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 8am- 12pm, starting at Town Hall (111 Maiden Lane), where you can pick up gloves, bags and additional supplies and will be given an assigned area.

Did you know it was against the law to dump electronics in the landfill? That is why Lexington County is hosting their Electronic Recycling Day on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Bring your old electronics (eight items per household) such as TV's, VCR's, computers, phones, etc. from 9am-12pm at the County Administration Building (212 S. Lake Dr.).

In addition to these events, Lexington County Stormwater Consortium and Lexington Soil & Water Conservation District will host a Rain Barrel Workshop on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 9am-12pm at the Lexington County Fire Training Facility (436 Ball Park Road). Space is limited to 25 participants and registration is $25 and includes all materials and refreshments. For more information contact (803) 785-8201.

Finally, several other events are being coordinated celebrating "Earth Month" to help educate citizens on the importance on being environmentally conscience. I hope that you and your family take time to participate in these activities and do your part to help further our "Green is Clean" initiatives.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter holiday and Happy Spring!
