Criminal Investigations Division

The Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.) is managed by a Lieutenant who supervises 6 General Investigators, a Narcotics/Vice Investigator, a Crime Scene Investigator and the Victim's Advocate.

The Criminal Investigations Division is tasked with following up on leads in criminal cases and Investigators are available to respond at any time, day or night, to scenes of any incident.

The Investigation Process

The Criminal Investigations Division works to follow up on reports of criminal activity initially reported to our uniformed patrol officers. Investigators then establish the elements of the crime as defined by state law, identify and apprehend the person responsible for the criminal act.

The Criminal Investigations Division is also responsible for forensic examination of crime scenes along with the evaluation, collection and preservation of evidence.

The Criminal Investigations Division is additionally tasked with the transport of fugitives from other jurisdictions as well as Court Security for the Town of Lexington Summary Court.
